Jacobs Recognized for Environmental Industry Leadership and Social Contributions with 5 Business Achievement Awards

Awards showcase Jacobs’ achievements in information management and technology, climate change adaptation and resilience, and continued industry leadership in mental health.

Jacobs has been recognized by Environmental Business International (EBI) with five business achievement awards for leadership and outstanding performance across our climate response, environmental corporate work in 2022.

The annual awards are administered by Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) and Climate Change Business Journal (CCBJ), two leading sources of business intelligence in the environmental industry.

The Jacobs team received the EBJ and CCBJ awards at the 21st Annual Environmental Industry Summit on March 22-23, 2023, in San Diego, California, U.S. Several of our technical experts also participated as featured panelists at the summit, providing input on the state of the industry and key environmental concerns.

EBJ and CCBJ recognized Jacobs for the following awards, including:

  • EBJ – Information Technology: Cliff Monitoring: For proactively implementing a first of its kind monitoring program to assess cliff conditions along the City of San Diego’s Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant’s access road, informing mitigation measures to allow continue safe road use.
  • EBJ – Technology Merit: Wastewater Management: For introducing Aqua DNA, an intelligent digital platform that collects live data to improve wastewater network performance using smart sensors and AI-powered predictive analytics.
  • EBJ – Industry Leadership: Mental Health: For continued industry leadership in promoting  mental health awareness, exemplified by the launch of Jacobs’ One Million Lives (OML), a free web-based mental health check-in tool, developed with mental health professionals, to help users assess their current state of mind and provide proactive strategies for mental health growth
  • CCBJ – Project Merit: Blue Carbon: For the “ground-breaking” studies on carbon captured in the sediment of restored saltmarshes and for advancing the knowledge needed to develop the U.K.’s carbon accounting methodology for saltmarshes.
  • CCBJ – Project Merit: Marine Habitat: For managing modeling, permitting, design, and construction oversight of the Pensacola East Bay Oyster Habitat Restoration Project along 6.5-miles of Florida’s shoreline. The project not only restored oyster reefs but improves water quality through filtration and provides natural resilience to the effects of sea level rise, in addition to providing shoreline protection, and nursery and foraging habitat for other aquatic life.

“In a rather tumultuous year of economic ups & downs in 2022, a number of companies set themselves apart with performance, transactions or projects that merit special consideration. With energy transition, climate resilience, and new federal programs driving business, as well as traditional environmental market drivers in infrastructure, air quality, remediation, water and wastewater it is understandable that most companies report growing demand for technology and services,” says Grant Ferrier, editor of Environmental Business Journal and chair of the selection committee. “Overcoming supply chain challenges, price & wage increases, qualified labor shortages and general economic upheavals has almost become routine for the resilient company leaders of the environmental industry.”
