Water Reuse

Delivering resilient water supplies by making every drop count

As water scarcity and rising demand reshape how water is managed, water reuse is becoming essential to long-term resilience.

For more than 60 years, Jacobs has led the evolution of water reuse — from the first applications of advanced wastewater treatment to today’s most complex potable reuse programs. Our teams support utilities through planning, design, permitting and delivery, helping  secure reliable, climate-resilient supplies while building regulatory confidence and public trust.

End-to-end delivery

How water reuse builds reliable, climate-resilient supplies.

Get in touch with us

Water reuse solutions create a reliable, climate-resilient supply by purifying wastewater for beneficial use — reducing dependence on limited freshwater supplies and imported sources. With a OneWater approach that views all water as a valuable resource, communities can diversify supplies, strengthen drought protection and secure long-term water stability.

Potable reuse treats wastewater effluent using advanced multi-barrier treatment — such as membrane filtration, reverse osmosis and UV advanced oxidation — to produce water that meets drinking standards. In indirect potable reuse (IPR), purified water is stored in a reservoir or aquifer before use. In direct potable reuse (DPR), it’s introduced directly into a water treatment plant or the drinking water system.

We support clients from concept through operations, with services including master planning, feasibility analysis, pilot testing, advanced treatment design, construction and operations, regulatory navigation, enhanced source control, digital optimization and public engagement.

We combine transparent treatment design with research-based communication strategies, demonstration facilities and stakeholder engagement programs that help communities understand and support reuse.

Water reuse provides reliable, high-quality process and cooling water while reducing dependence on municipal supply. By treating and recycling onsite or municipal wastewater, we  position facilities to strengthen drought resilience, manage growth and meet sustainability goals.
