Jacobs’ U.K. operation has been recognized for the fifth consecutive year for our efforts in advancing gender equality. The Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality is the U.K.’s leading benchmark for organizations advancing gender equality across their business. Run by Business in the Community since 2011, the list recognizes companies making significant, lasting impact in promoting workplace gender equality.

“This recognition is a testament to the culture we've built together — and we’re committed to continuing our journey, creating an environment where everyone feels included, valued and empowered to thrive,” says Jacobs Executive Vice President, Keith Lawson. “Our employee communities very much support this by providing a platform for employees to collaborate and work toward a common goal, as well as aiding allyship and career development.”

Our core value, “We live inclusion”, is central to our business and considered in everything we do. We believe that advancing gender equality isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s a strategic imperative. A workforce enriched by a wide range of perspectives fuels innovation, strengthens talent attraction and fosters a culture of belonging. That’s why we’ve embedded these principles into our TogetherBeyond℠ approach—a framework designed to ensure inclusion and belonging are at the heart of everything we do. Our diverse perspectives and unique backgrounds power our collective strength.

Our Jacobs Women’s Network leads pivotal gender equality initiatives within Jacobs and in the wider communities we serve, through career development activities, networking events, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) initiatives, community outreach, mentorships and much more.

“The businesses that have made it into this year’s Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality demonstrates those that are holding fast to their values around equality,” says Acting Chief Executive of Business in the Community Kieran Harding.

It is imperative for employers to eradicate gender inequality in the workplace, not only because it is the right thing to do, but it will also unlock economic benefits for businesses and ‘lift up’ the UK. While there is still much work to be done, the progress being made to ensure equal pay, career progression and offering enhanced flexible working and family friendly policies shows that we’re on the right path.”

Developing our talent

We understand the importance of family and flexible working, and that women are disproportionately affected by having to balance caring and work responsibilities. At Jacobs, we actively support both, with flexible schedules and locations to help colleagues balance work and homelife.

Our global benefit Carrot provides inclusive fertility healthcare and family-forming benefits for all paths to parenthood. Our Bridge the Gap program actively supports parents returning to work after parental leave through structured workshops, manager toolkits, coaching and awareness campaigns. The introduction of Agile Careers and Career Partners support talent mobility and progression – especially among women.

Our wellbeing programs, tools and benefits put our people and their families first, giving them resources and support to be at their best.

We provide a free global mental health check-in tool called One Million Lives to help users assess their current mental health and provide them with suggestions and resources for personal growth and resilience.

Recently, we’ve been named Parents & Carers Champion in the VERCIDA Employer Excellence Awards, recognized for implementing flexible working policies and robust support systems for working parents and caregivers, allowing them to thrive professionally while managing their responsibilities.

Jacobs’ U.K. operation has also maintained the Carer Confident Active accreditation with the Employers for Carers (part of Carers U.K.). This achievement underscores our commitment to fostering carers' inclusion through comprehensive policies and would not have been possible without the efforts of our ACE Network who led the way in putting key measures in place that support the role of carers at work and in their home life.

Growing our business

At Jacobs, we continue to monitor and take intentional actions toward narrowing our pay gap and improving pay equity for women and minority ethnic groups. Our Gender Pay Gap for England, Wales and Scotland, for example, has reduced for six consecutive years. We’re continuing to build this momentum and can already see the positive impact our actions are making.
