Celebrating 75 years of Jacobs in Idaho: A legacy built in Boise

In 1950, just four years after CH2M HILL was founded in Corvallis, Oregon, the company opened its second office in Boise, Idaho. What began small has grown into a hub of innovation and service, woven into the fabric of Idaho’s infrastructure and economy. Today, Jacobs, which acquired CH2M in 2017, celebrates 75 years of continuous presence in the Gem State — honoring a legacy of engineering excellence, community collaboration and forward-thinking solutions. “This anniversary is more than a milestone — it’s a celebration of the people, partnerships and purpose that have defined our journey in Idaho,” says Jacobs Boise Office Lead Jeff Hodson. “We’re proud of our legacy and energized by the opportunities ahead to continue building a more sustainable, resilient future for the communities that we serve.” As Idaho has grown, so has Jacobs. The Boise office now serves as home to more than 300 professionals across a diverse portfolio of services. From water and transportation to buildings, energy, environmental consulting and advanced facilities, Jacobs has helped shape Idaho’s progress project by project, decade by decade. A recent example of our impact is the City of Nampa’s $182 million new wastewater treatment plant, delivered a year ahead of schedule and within budget through a progressive design-build approach. The Water Renewal Facility stands as the largest water reuse and design-build initiative in Idaho history. Designed to protect rivers and streams in the Treasure Valley, it also provides up to 15% of Nampa’s summer irrigation needs — an innovative step toward

From inventory to impact: Helping Wisconsin water systems tackle service line inventories

Since 2022, Jacobs has worked with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to support community public water systems in meeting service line inventory requirements under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). Through this collaboration, Jacobs is helping public water systems: Develop and update service line inventories Compile and assess records to identify service line and connector materials Create procedures to verify service line materials Prepare consumer notification materials and templates Resolve inventory-related violations To support this work, Jacobs collaborated with the Freshwater Collaborative and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to provide hands-on training to students from ten universities across the state. These students helped local water systems develop their initial inventories — contributing directly to lead reduction efforts and gaining valuable field experience. “We’re delivering strategic value to Wisconsin communities by helping systems navigate complex regulatory requirements and build resilient, lead-free infrastructure,” says Jacobs Project Manager and Senior Technologist Cathy Wunderlich. “This work is about more than compliance — it’s about building trust, improving infrastructure and protecting future generations.” Jacobs and the DNR will share insights from the technical assistance program at the Wisconsin AWWA Annual Conference this fall. Don’t miss the presentation, “ Developing a Service Line Inventory that Checks all the Boxes: Transforming Challenges into Triumphs” on September 10, 2025. Jacobs and Dragos collaborate to strengthen cybersecurity at vulnerable US water facilities

Jacobs and industrial cybersecurity firm Dragos are working together to help protect small and medium-sized water utilities in the United States from escalating cyber threats. Through this collaboration, Jacobs will deploy Dragos’ industrial cybersecurity platform alongside its own consulting services to help utilities improve their defenses against increasingly sophisticated attacks. The effort is focused on supporting utilities that often lack the budget or in-house expertise to address vulnerabilities in their operational technology (OT) systems.  The initiative leverages Dragos’ Community Defense Program, which offers no-cost software and services to water and electric utilities with annual revenues under $100 million. Jacobs brings decades of experience with more than 250 U.S. water clients and a deep bench of cybersecurity professionals familiar with the unique challenges of the water sector.  “Cybersecurity threats to U.S. water utilities are more severe than ever,” says Amer Battikhi, executive vice president at Jacobs. “Our longstanding relationships with water utilities across the country put us in a strong position to deliver practical solutions quickly, especially to those most in need.”  CEO and Co-Founder of Dragos Robert M. Lee echoed the urgency: “The threats facing water infrastructure are growing rapidly, but many utilities simply don’t have the resources to keep up. Our work with Jacobs is about scaling industrial cybersecurity support to where it can make the most immediate impact.”  The collaboration comes as federal agencies raise concerns about vulnerabilities in the water sector. From sewer to science: Jacobs reunites with young innovator to explore biosolids management

What began as a bold idea by a high school science enthusiast quickly evolved into a transformative force for environmental change in The Villages, Florida. Junior Sarah Colley from The Villages Charter School collaborated with Jacobs — a global leader in sustainable solutions and The Villages’ contract operator — to tackle one of today’s most pressing environmental challenges for wastewater operators: per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in biosolids. It all began with a question Last fall, Jacobs hosted an innovation workshop with key stakeholders in The Villages to showcase results-driven technologies, evaluate forward-thinking solutions and prioritize actionable strategies to address evolving water and wastewater needs. Sarah attended the workshop and was inspired by a discussion on the production of biochar — a charcoal-like substance produced from biosolids using pyrolysis — and its potential use as a fertilizer for The Villages’ 56 turfgrass golf courses. “Converting biosolids into biochar creates a high-quality fertilizer product that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, removes PFAS contamination and enhances soil properties,” says Jacobs Project Manager Lenard Scroggins. With the support of Jacobs and The Villages’ golf course maintenance team, Sarah pursued a science fair project — Turf Response to Biochar Application — to explore the use of biochar as golf course fertilizer to reduce the need for and cost of commercial fertilizer products. Her science fair question: Can heat-processed biosolids be as effective as commercial fertilizers when applied to a common golf course turfgrass? Testing a real-world solution Sarah’s eight-week experiment compared turfgrass grown from Jacobs-supplied
