This Q&A series introduces some of the professionals making an impact across Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. In this article, we meet Haneen Aljoudi, a graduate health, safety and environment engineer, who shares her journey and inspiration.
What inspired you to pursue a career in health, safety and environment (HSE) and what drew you to the Graduate Development Program (GPD)?
I was drawn to Jacobs’ Graduate Development Program because it offered the chance to contribute to major projects aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030—particularly in strengthening local talent in the HSE sector. I saw it as an opportunity to be a part of something bigger while exploring a field that directly connects to protecting people and the environment. Jacobs’ strong values and commitment to safety made the decision even easier.
What kind of projects or environments are you working on in your role?
Since joining, I’ve been working on-site with the client’s office in a construction supervision consultant (CSC) role as part of the HSE team. I help ensure compliance with health and safety policies, translating them into day-to-day action. It’s shown me how safety works at the ground level and the importance of every control measure in place.
How is the GDP helping you to develop your skills in HSE?
It’s been a great learning journey so far. I’ve had the chance to shadow experienced colleagues, attend inspections and client meetings and contribute to HSE planning and risk communication. That hands-on experience has helped me see how safety ties into every phase of a project, from planning to execution.
What do you find most rewarding about enhancing program delivery in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA)?
Knowing that every day on site, we help set and uphold safety standards. Being part of a team that ensures safe, high-quality program delivery makes me feel like I’m making a real difference.
What have you valued most about working at Jacobs as a graduate?
From the start, I felt encouraged to ask questions, speak up and share ideas. The team culture here is inclusive and supportive. I’ve learned so much from people who are not only skilled at what they do but also truly invested in helping graduates grow. That mindset extends to our clients too, which makes the experience even more meaningful.
What advice would you give to other young professionals in KSA thinking about a career in HSE?
HSE is a meaningful and impactful career. It’s about saving lives, protecting the environment and making projects safer for everyone. I’ve learned that both technical knowledge and soft skills matter—especially communication, which is key to creating safe work environments. My advice: stay curious, keep learning, and embrace every opportunity to grow.
