Preserving a Landmark: Jacobs Supporting Pulaski Skyway Rehabilitation

We’re providing construction inspection services for the rehabilitation of the Pulaski Skyway in New Jersey.

Famous for its appearance in The Sopranos, the Pulaski Skyway is a four-lane bridge causeway that carries about 74,000 vehicles daily between Newark and Jersey City. It serves as a key express route connecting New York City and surrounding areas. 

Jacobs is working with the New Jersey Department of Transportation to help rehabilitate four underdeck trusses from Span 70 to Span 76. The work includes structural steel cleaning and painting, as well as significant steel repairs. Several rocker bearings will be fully reconstructed to improve structural movement and reliability. 

The project also involves replacing substructure pier columns at five locations and installing new bearings. Specialized techniques will be used to maintain the Pulaski Skyway's stability during construction. Additional tasks include utility relocations, regulated waste management, dewatering, electrical and intelligent transportation system (ITS) work and targeted roadway reconstruction. 

Together, these improvements will improve safety, increase structural integrity and extend the life of this critical transportation link.
