Jacobs Ranked #1 on ENR’s Top 500 Design Firms List for Fourth Consecutive Year

Engineering News-Record has ranked Jacobs No. 1 in its list of Top 500 Design Firms. Widely considered the industry benchmark, the annual list ranks both publicly and privately held U.S. companies, based on revenue for design-specific services performed in the previous year. Jacobs has held a top five position in the Top 500 list since ENR’s rankings began in 2003, and for a fourth consecutive year, we’re excited to retain the top spot.

ENR’s cover story that accompanied the rankings discussed the social, economic and cultural impacts of the pandemic and how it amplified changes across the design sector. Many firms spent the majority of 2020 adapting to the pandemic, and now the focus has shifted to trying to return to a “new normal” and preparing to take on what is next within our industry.

Remarking on Jacobs’ Mental Health Matters resilience program that was launched early last year, Jacobs Chair and CEO Steve Demetriou was quoted in the article on the importance of employees’ physical and mental health during the pandemic: “Normalizing the conversation and reducing the stigma around mental health is crucial. We equipped our Positive Mental Health Champions with materials to assist employees with COVID-19-related mental health concerns.”

In December 2020 we also launched One Million Lives, a free mental health check-in tool to enhance users' understanding of their current state of mind and provide proactive strategies for personal mental health development.

The article also highlighted the urgency placed on securing cyber infrastructure considering recent attacks and the associated elevated costs as legacy systems need to be upgraded and enhanced security is needed. 

“The SolarWind and Microsoft Exchange hacks have really disrupted federal and commercial markets,” said Demetriou.  “Our teams proactively and iteratively search through networks to detect and isolate threats. An active cyber defense is vital.”
