To save precious water in a drought-ridden region of the Mojave Desert, the U.S. Army engaged Jacobs to design, then own and operate, a new water treatment plant, the Irwin Water Works (IWW).

Connecting water to water. Thanks to an award-winning design-build-operate project, a new 6-mile pipeline links the City of Goodyear to its Colorado River water allocation through the Salt River Project (SRP) canal system, allowing the city to access a surface water source for the first time. Now the city has a more reliable water source than groundwater, and a more secure water future.
It took an innovative design-build partnership between a local municipality and a private oil and gas water supply company, but Jacobs’ progressive solution to Midland’s water woes not only preserves the city’s water supply but generates a treated water source for oilfield operations, reducing reliance on limited freshwater resources.
