East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR), conceptually developed during Rebuild by Design after Superstorm Sandy, is the first segment of a 10-mile flood protection system that extends around lower Manhattan, referred to as the “Big U.”
From the mid-1940s until 2003, the Navy and allied forces tested weapons and conducted other military training activities on the eastern part of Vieques Island, within the 15,000-acre Vieques Naval Training Range, as well as offshore. Since 1999, Jacobs has provided continuous support for the Navy’s environmental and munitions response programs on Vieques Island. We're responsible for investigation and munitions response quality assurance for more than 20,000 acres of land and underwater area potentially containing munitions.
The PA Turnpike/I-95 Interchange project faced numerous challenges, including collaborative coordination amongst a large team of stakeholders and designers as well as overcoming geometric and physical constraints over its decades-long process. The lengthy duration of the conceptualization and environmental study phases – that brought together eight regional transportation agency stakeholders and over 40 design consultants – added unique challenges, such as financial constraints and updated environmental and technological guidelines and standards.
