Connecting Los Angeles’ Westside: Park to Beach, Safely and Sustainably
The Potrero Canyon Bridge will create a landmark link for pedestrians and cyclists
After decades of planning, a striking pedestrian and bicycle bridge is moving closer to reality along Pacific Coast Highway in Los Angeles, designed to link George Wolfberg Park at Potrero Canyon to Will Rogers State Beach. The Potrero Canyon Pedestrian Bridge will offer safer crossings, scenic views and a more connected experience for communities on Los Angeles’ Westside.
Supported by both the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering and Council District 11 and designed with sustainability and community input at its core, the project aims to transform how residents and visitors experience the city’s coastal and canyon landscapes. Jacobs is leading the early planning and environmental phases, navigating complex approvals and engaging stakeholders to ensure the bridge reflects local priorities.
The planned bridge will deliver multiple benefits:
-
Enhanced safety
A grade-separated crossing over the iconic Pacific Coast Highway for pedestrians and cyclists
-
Community connectivity
Linking neighborhoods, parkland and coastal recreation
-
Sustainable mobility
Supporting active transportation and reducing congestion
-
Iconic design
Aesthetic gateway complementing the coastal environment
Jacobs has completed the project initiation phase, including the preliminary environmental analysis report, project study report–project development support, preliminary right-of-way engineering and public outreach. The team continues to maintain momentum for approvals and schedule adherence while navigating complex permitting and coordination with multiple stakeholder groups.
Public engagement is informing alternatives and design priorities, ensuring the final structure balances safety, aesthetics and environmental stewardship.

Looking ahead
When complete, the Potrero Canyon Pedestrian Bridge will represent more than a crossing — it will stand as a gateway to Los Angeles and a commitment to sustainable design. By linking canyon trails to the Pacific shoreline, the bridge will create opportunities for healthier lifestyles and a stronger sense of place for Los Angeles’ Westside communities.
For Jacobs, this project continues a long tradition of shaping Los Angeles’ infrastructure and public spaces. From parks and iconic bridges like the Sixth Street Viaduct to transit corridors such as LA Metro’s D Line Extension and water systems like the Donald C. Tillman Advanced Water Purification Facility, Jacobs has worked across with the city for decades to deliver projects that define mobility, resilience and community connection. The Potrero Canyon Bridge will extend that legacy — an enduring landmark that reflects the city’s values and Jacobs’ commitment to creating a more inclusive, sustainable Los Angeles.
“Safe, sustainable access to our coast is essential. This bridge represents more than a crossing — it’s a gateway to recreation and community”
