Kate Carpenter is a Chartered Civil Engineer with 37 years’ experience in U.K. road and bridge design; network management and road safety.  As a subject matter expert, she is head of discipline for Jacobs' operational road safety (ORS) covering casualty reduction; safe design and audit; risk assessment; suicide prevention and safety governance. She is discipline lead for ORS on major projects including Heathrow Expansion and Smart Motorways. She has a particular interest in reducing inequity in transport safety and accessibility due to sex, age, disability and social class.  

Kate is vice president of UK Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) and gave evidence in person on behalf of CIHT to U.K. government’s Transport Select Committee (TSC) inquiries into The roll-out and safety of Smart Motorways, Managing the impact of Streetworks and Joined-up Journeys.
