Rising demand for colocation services is driving the need for data centers that can scale quickly while maintaining consistency, efficiency and operational flexibility. For a confidential colocation client, this meant designing facilities that could support multiple tenants, accommodate evolving technology requirements and adapt to different sites without redesigning from scratch each time. Traditional one‑off designs can slow deployment and introduce cost and schedule risk across a growing portfolio. To address this, the program focused on developing a modular, scalable prototype design that could be adapted for site‑specific conditions. Each facility includes six colocation suites of approximately 25,000 square feet, along with administrative and support areas, enabling flexible leasing, phased build‑out and long‑term operational resilience.
Jacobs provided engineering design services for the prototype modular data center, as well as site‑specific design for two locations. We worked closely with the client to translate operational requirements into repeatable, buildable solutions that balance flexibility, performance and efficiency. By combining prototype development with tailored site integration, we streamlined delivery while maintaining consistent standards across facilities. The modular approach supports faster deployment and easier expansion, as well as more efficient use of space and systems over time. The result is a flexible colocation platform that positions the client to respond to market demand with confidence, reduce redesign effort and deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure for current and future tenants.
