Understanding the condition and value of natural ecosystems is critical to managing environmental risk, shaping policy and directing investment. Across the U.K., fragmented data and inconsistent measurement have made it difficult to build a clear, national picture of natural capital. Without this insight, decisions around land use, biodiversity and environmental priorities risk being incomplete or misaligned. A national ecosystem survey is addressing this by creating a consistent, scalable approach to collecting and analyzing environmental data — improving how ecosystems are measured and understood to support more informed decision-making and long-term environmental stewardship.
Jacobs is supporting the delivery of the U.K. Government’s Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment, contributing expertise in environmental data, survey design and program delivery. We’re developing and implementing approaches to collect, manage and analyze ecosystem data at scale — ensuring consistency and quality as well as usability across regions. By combining scientific rigor with practical delivery, we’re supporting a program that provides reliable insights into ecosystem condition and change that will inform policy and guide investment to improve how natural capital is managed across the U.K.
