NJOT appoints Jacobs for new intelligent transportation system on route 18

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) has received a contract from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to provide construction administration and inspection services for the Route 18 Traffic Signal System project in East Brunswick and New Brunswick, New Jersey. The Route 18 project consists of the installation of new Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment and upgrades to the existing traffic signal system. Jacobs’ construction administration and inspection services include the installation of image and radar detectors, Controlled Traffic Signal System (CTSS) cameras and fiber optic cable at 23 locations along the Route 18 corridor. The project is scheduled for completion by November 2017. Jacobs will oversee a traffic study to be conducted prior to the start of any work to determine daily volumes at each traffic signal, average corridor travel time and average intersection delay. The findings will be compared with the information obtained when the system is integrated and operational. PennDOT awards Jacobs multi-million dollar active traffic management project

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) was awarded a ten-year, multi-million dollar contract from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to design a long-range, comprehensive, multi-modal transportation management solution to improve travel along the Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) Corridor in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Jacobs will provide systems engineering and alternatives analysis, preliminary engineering, final design, right-of-way acquisition services and construction consultation to provide improvements on I-76 and supporting arterials between the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-276) and US Route 1 interchanges to enable active traffic management. Jacobs wins global award for Australian hospital project

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sydney’s Blacktown Hospital, on which Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. carried out all architectural work, received three awards at the 2017 Design & Health International Academy Awards, including the prize for Best International Health Project Under 40,000 Square Meters. The awards were presented to the Jacobs team during the Academy Awards Gala Dinner at the 12th Design & Health World Congress held in July in The City Hall of Vienna. Jacobs secures Highways England’s Oxford to Cambridge expressway project

(NYSE:JEC) has been awarded a contract by Highways England to develop possible solutions for the Oxford to Cambridge Expressway project, focusing on development of the corridor between the M1 and M40 motorways. The expressway - approximately 93 miles (150 kilometers) - aims to improve connectivity across England’s economic heartland. It will also help unlock strategic growth sites between the university cities of Oxford and Cambridge together with Milton Keynes’ high-tech businesses and computer sciences. Jacobs recognized for innovation at major water conference in New Zealand

Jacobs has demonstrated its leading reputation in the global water market after receiving four significant prizes at the 2017 Water New Zealand Awards. Katrina Bukauskas of Jacobs (Wellington) and Andrew Koolhof from Engineers Without Borders (EWB) picked up the prizes for Best Young Author and Presentation of the Year for their paper on EWB’s work in Cambodia developing technology solutions for sanitation in areas affected by flooding, high groundwater and floating conditions. The Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Sanitation in Challenging Environments (SCE) Project takes a sector-wide collaborative and collective impact approach to improve awareness, funding, technology R&D and action in Cambodia. Katrina and Andrew are returned field professionals who both spent 12 months in Cambodia leading the SCE Project. Jacobs Chairman and CEO visits Capitol Hill

On November 8, Jacobs Chairman and CEO Steve Demetriou visited Capitol Hill to meet with Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) and discuss the benefits of the CH2M acquisition. Senator Gardner was familiar with CH2M since they are headquartered in his home state, but was also aware of Jacobs’ work at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs supporting the Missile Defense Agency and our B&I projects across the state. Senator Gardner was enthusiastic about merging the capabilities of the two companies. Steve also met with Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-AL 4), a member of the powerful Committee on Appropriations, thanking him for his support of the NASA exploration programs and the increased funding he provided to keep the program moving forward. Jacobs Asia Pacific team participates in Australia’s biggest mental health check-in

Jacobs became the first engineering consultancy to participate in Australia’s Biggest Mental Health Check-In following its launch across the Asia Pacific region last month. The World Health Organization (WHO) lists mental health as the most significant health issue in the world. One in five will experience a mental health issue in any given year, and one in two at work. Mental health issues have a significant detrimental impact on quality of life yet it is one of the most untreated health issues; less than seven percent of people find their way to an effective intervention. The Biggest Mental Health Check-In assesses individuals’ mental health and offers subsequent support where required. To participate in the opt-in program, Jacob’s employees are provided with an online check-in survey and a wearable device. The technology measures circadian heart rate patterns to ascertain objective measures of stress in the body through sleeping and waking. Participants can subsequently access their report results, including their personal strategies, through a password protected portal. Jacobs wins Construction Management Association of America’s project of the year

Jacobs has been awarded Project of the Year by the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) at their National Conference & Trade Show in Washington, DC last month. The United States Courthouse in Los Angeles, CA, is the new LEED Platinum certified “glass cube” structure, replacing a notable but dated courthouse a few blocks away that had been used since 1940. The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) leveraged Jacobs’ extensive construction management experience in building federal courthouses to oversee the $343-million project. Jacobs was hands-on and fully involved from the creation of the design RFP documents through commissioning and made innovative contributions throughout the construction process. Australian-first bridge success for Darlington upgrade project

In an Australian-first for a civil construction project of this scale, the first of two new bridges constructed “off-site” has been successfully transported and installed for the $468 million (AU$620 million) Darlington Upgrade Project in South Australia. The 180 meter-long, 3,000 tonne bridge was built on land between the Southern Expressway and Marion Road, at Bedford Park, over several months and was installed using self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) on November 24-25, 2017. The Darlington Upgrade Project is being delivered by Gateway South on behalf of the South Australian Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure. Gateway South is a joint venture between Fulton Hogan and Laing O’Rourke, with Jacobs delivering the design in association with its partners, KBR and SMEC. An international team has been involved in the engineering design for this complex undertaking, including the Adelaide office of Jacobs as lead bridge designer, along with colleagues in Chicago. The team developed a detailed analysis of more than 150 load cases of various vertical and twist scenarios for the SPMT move to determine the allowable limits during the move. The team defined the deflection and stress limits – which Gateway South and its subcontractor, Sarens, utilized during the move – and supported site engineers by monitoring remotely from the U.S. during the move. The innovative off-line bridge construction method was adopted, rather than traditional bridge construction practices, as it significantly reduces traffic and community impacts. Jacobs presents sea level rise strategy at United Nations climate change conference

Preliminary strategies, developed by Jacobs to address challenges posed by sea level rise on the South Pacific nation of Kiribati, were showcased at the recent United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP23) held in Bonn, Germany. The Government of Kiribati (GoK) presented an animated visualization of a concept land and urban development plan, which was created after the Jacobs-facilitated workshops in Kiribati. The workshops, which involved government departments, were designed to ensure that the project vision was being developed by the stakeholders with an understanding and agreement of the key issues and design principles critical to the success of the plan. “The workshop format proved to be highly effective, with everyone participating, and wrapped with a sense of common aspiration and concern being recognized during a close out session,” said to Jacobs Project Manager Simon Liddell.
