Our projects
-
Long Island Rail Road Expansion (LIRR)
A major expansion to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)’s Main Line is now open to the public. Extending from Floral Park to Hicksville, New York, the 9.8-mile third track expansion to the LIRR Main Line increases capacity by 50%, alleviates congestion during peak hours, improves overall rail services and enhances rider safety.Joint Venture (JV) partners Arup and Jacobs delivered this critical program on schedule and on budget.
-
Grand Central Madison
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Grand Central Madison (formerly East Side Access) program in New York is its largest capital project and the first expansion of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) in over 100 years. Jacobs supported streamlined delivery as Project Management Office (PMO) partner. With a complex web of deliverables and interconnected dependencies, a key element of our role was the integration of over 15 systems contracts, from traction power to signaling.
-
East Side Coastal Resiliency
East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR), conceptually developed during Rebuild by Design after Superstorm Sandy, is the first segment of a 10-mile flood protection system that extends around lower Manhattan, referred to as the “Big U.” As part of a multi-disciplinary team, Jacobs is one of two design leads and engineers-of-record for the flood protection system.
-
Rockaway Boardwalk Redevelopment & Storm Resiliency
When Superstorm Sandy hit the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S. it destroyed thousands of businesses, homes, public amenities and regional infrastructure, including the iconic, wooden Rockaway Boardwalk in Queens, New York. The New York City Economic Development Corporation and the City’s Department of Parks and Recreation, working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), commissioned a team, to reimagine the approximately five miles of beachfront with a resilient, creative vision. Jacobs, RBA and WXY led the design of the replacement boardwalk and associated access points to be more storm resilient.
-
NYCEDC Inspection and Engineering Services
Jacobs was awarded a five-year extension to our on-call maritime engineering consultant services contract with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), which includes inspection and engineering services for city-owned maritime infrastructure. With an increased focus on waterfront infrastructure, resiliency planning, waterfront utilization and engagement with New York City’s sixth borough — the waterfront — this high-profile contract continues to play a critical role in securing the city’s continued economic and cultural vitality.
-
Reimagining Rikers Island Infrastructure and Landscape
Jacobs has been selected by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to study the feasibility of consolidating four aging wastewater resource recovery facilities into a new state-of-the-art one billion+ gallon-per-day facility on New York's Rikers Island. Jacobs, in association with a New York-centric team of specialized subconsultants, will blend local insights and creative talents in this study to reimagine NYC's wastewater infrastructure and community landscape.
