Jacobs. A world where you can.
As climate change threatens water security around the world, more communities are turning to water reuse as a resilient water supply solution and embracing the OneWater principle that all water has value. Jacobs has been supporting clients with water reuse programs for decades, beginning with the first applications of advanced wastewater treatment technologies in the 1960s. We provide our clients with a full range of services, from water reuse feasibility studies to design, construction and operations.
The only certainty about the future is uncertainty. Resilience is an attribute of a smarter planet, and requires planning and adapting ahead of potential threats. We help our clients survive, recover, adapt and thrive.
As a purpose-led company, we know we have a pivotal role to play in addressing the climate emergency. We consider this not only good business, but our duty to channel our technology-enabled expertise and capabilities toward benefitting people and the planet.
For more than 30 years, Jacobs has been responsible for planning and implementing Lead and Copper Rule-related strategies which protect millions of people in the U.S. and Canada. Our work includes enhanced water quality monitoring strategies, sampling plan development, harvested pipe-scale analysis, lead service line inventories and replacement plans, corrosion control studies and the incorporation of equity and environmental justice considerations into compliance programs.
Jacobs is working to help clients across the United States secure federal funding for projects that make our cities and communities more connected and sustainable. Working hand-in-hand with clients from coast to coast and everywhere in between, Jacobs develops bold, innovative solutions to address the nation’s toughest challenges.

Stories that capture our partnerships and innovative impact for a more connected, sustainable world
Jacobs’ Executive Chair of the Board of Directors and former CEO Steve Demetriou has received the Individual Leadership Award at the Climate Registry’s recent Climate Leadership Awards. This recognizes Steve’s impact and success in transforming Jacobs’ approach to climate response during his tenure as CEO.
The Individual Leadership Award recognizes people across multiple sectors who have exemplified extraordinary leadership both in addressing climate change and engaging their organization, peers and partners.
The judges were particularly impressed by Steve’s leadership of the launch of our PlanBeyond sustainable business strategy, our Climate Action Plan, which outlines our commitments to address the climate challenge, and the creation of an Office of Global Climate Response and ESG designed to deliver on the company’s commitments to climate change.
They also praised his inclusion of integrating climate KPIs into quarterly business reporting and establishing an ESG & Risk Committee in July 2021 to further increase the Board of Directors’ oversight of ESG issues, reporting and enterprise risk management.
This recognition comes just a few weeks after the company has won the prestigious World Environment Center Gold Medal Award, and five business achievement awards from Environmental Business International, recognizing leadership and outstanding performance across our climate response, environmental and corporate work in 2022.
“Receiving these awards is testament to the purposeful journey Jacobs has been on to create a more connected, sustainable world,” says Jacobs Senior Vice President, Global Climate Response and ESG, Jan Walstrom. “Jacobs is uniquely positioned to develop and deliver data-driven and innovative solutions that solve our client’s greatest challenges, including those directly focused on responding to the climate challenge.”
These recognitions follow our continued commitment to embrace sustainability at the heart of our strategy and business operations, with Climate Response elevated to one of Jacobs’ three core growth accelerators in our Boldly Moving Forward strategy – aligning positive societal impact with long-term business growth and placing significance on the delivery of holistic, integrated, end-to-end solutions for energy transition, decarbonization, climate change adaptation and resilience and natural resource stewardship.
The Climate Leadership Awards is a national awards program that recognizes and incentivizes exemplary corporate, organizational and individual leadership in response to climate change. The winners are leading the way in managing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in their operations and supply chains.
