The CollectivelySM program is Jacobs' approach to global giving and volunteering. To celebrate one full year of Collectively goodness, we’ve transitioned to an open matching program and randomly seeded six employees with a $500 Golden Ticket charity donation throughout the month of June.
Today, we connected with one of the lucky Golden Ticket winners, Michelle Rivamonte, to chat about Community Plus Queensland Incorporated and Give Books to Children in the Philippines, the organizations she chose to donate to, why the organizations are so meaningful to her, and her unbroken streak!
We’re publishing this article as part of the celebrations to mark the successful first year of the Collectively program and you were a lucky recipient of one of the Golden Tickets and a $500 charity donation. Tell us a bit about the organizations you chose to donate to.
Community Plus Queensland Incorporated have been helping people throughout the heart of Brisbane Inner South to feel safer, connected and more in control of their lives for over 30 years.
I also donated to the project Give Books to Children in the Philippines, which works with local artists and writers to publish original picture books that are then donated directly to children in public schools and poor communities throughout the Philippines.
Why are these organizations important to you?
I have chosen these two charities as they help promote literacy to children and support the communities in their work of alleviating social isolation and food insecurity.
At Jacobs, you are a Project Control Manager. What’s your favorite part of your role?
My favorite part of my role is the opportunity to learn new things and to share it with my colleagues.
If you aren’t working, what would we be most likely to find you doing?
Cooking. This is my way of expressing my creativity and my love to my family.
Most proud career moment?
Last year our team was recognised for achieving the unbroken streak (53 weeks) of no overdue accounts. And, I am proud that we have been able to keep it going!
What’s something you learned in the last week?
I learned that by giving you will receive more and can share more. Currently, I am a benefactor of a religious organisation in the Philippines that support the building of a new church for the community.
People would be surprised to know that I….
Was not accepted in the School of Medicine because of my height but that made me decide to pursue Accounting and become a Certified Public Accountant.
What do you enjoy most about being part of #OurJacobs?
I enjoy the opportunities being given by Jacobs to learn and grow as individuals.
