Meet Melanie Harrison, the strategy director for federal civilian agencies at Jacobs, who’s spearheading critical functions like business development, sales, marketing, capture management and proposal support.

Melanie's strong career is marked by driving transformative initiatives and streamlining complex systems. Her expertise in information technology solutions and extensive business development background enhances Jacobs' ability to reach customers with the most relevant and leading edge capabilities.

Melanie is a native Washingtonian where she has spent her entire career developing and growing trusted partnerships with many federal and commercial customers in the technology field.  She enjoys many cultural and active opportunities to balance her work and personal family life.

Can you tell us how the work you do is helping deliver data solutions for our clients?

Since joining Jacobs, I've had the privilege of supporting the growth and sales efforts of our federal civilian sector team. Our focus is on delivering innovative solutions that make customer data useful, relevant and secure. Collaborating closely with customers, we automate processes, uncover valuable insights and find cost efficiencies that benefit both missions and taxpayers.

Can you tell us about a project you’ve participated in that you’re especially proud of?
Reflecting on my career, a standout project from the early days of the internet involved streamlining the invoicing system for internet domain registrations. The contractor that managed the work was struggling with the high volume of data that was generated from the influx of all the new subscribers. I led the sales team that brought the technical solution to consolidate the data and streamline the invoicing system for the millions of domains that would be renewed. This move not only cut costs but was a significant cog in the wheel that helped bring about significant changes in the world. Now, I'm eager to strategize how Jacobs' innovations in cyber technologies might similarly make a profound impact.

Can you share a time when you delivered something for a client that exceeded their expectations?
In growth and sales, success is measured by wins. Each win represents a trusted partner relationship, deep customer understanding, effective communication of company value and surpassing the competition. Every win is a testament to exceeding customer expectations.

What do you see as the top benefits that data solutions can provide to clients?
In the federal civilian space, data solutions are integral to mission success. Jacobs, with its global experience, brings the insights needed to tackle diverse challenges. From analytics and interoperability to privacy and security, our teams work to help customers uncover insights that solve seemingly impossible challenges.

What is some of the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Early in my career, a mentor instilled values like integrity, a sense of duty and personal courage. These ideals have been the foundation of my successes in business and life.
