BeyondZero® is our approach to the health, safety and security of our people, the protection of the environment and the resilience of Jacobs. When we think about the importance of these as we continue to manage through the pandemic, our deep-seated culture has been a bedrock for our company. And it didn’t just happen overnight. Our BeyondZero journey started back in 2007 and continues through today.

It wasn’t about achieving zero incidents, it was about creating a Culture of Caring℠ that reaches beyond our workplace. From our earliest BeyondZero leadership commitment workshops in 2009, our first BeyondZero Excellence Awards in 2010 celebrating our people’s achievements, to our Step Back program in 2014 and much more, the results over the last 13 years have been inspirational – and wouldn’t be possible without the drive, strategic actions and will and determination of our people.

Our 0.151 recordable incident rate for fiscal year 2020 equated to an all-time low. And while the focus with BeyondZero started with safety, as we continued to drive our injury rates down, we tackled the issue of mental health. Launching our Mental Health Matters program in 2016, we created a network of Positive Mental Health Champions. In 2020, we have grown to more than 1,900 trained champions who help us to normalize mental health conversations and support our people. And, we were again recognized in Mind's annual Workplace Wellbeing Index – a benchmark of best policy and practice – receiving the Gold award for continued commitment and leadership in workplace wellness.

This year, we also announced a 200% matching campaign for all employee donations supporting positive mental health and suicide prevention through our Collectively℠ program, our Global Giving and Volunteering program. Established to govern and centralize our giving strategy and provide a user-friendly way for employees to donate and volunteer, the program unites our 55,000 employees to support more than two million charities around the globe. It also includes Missions – a gamified employee engagement tool to empower our people to take small, positive actions both in and out of the workplace around important pro-social and environmental issues. Employees can ‘Sign-up’ to Missions to take part and complete activities to collate points.

We’re proud of our industry-leading safety and environment performance, our strong business resiliency and our agile response to the pandemic, but we know we can go further. At Jacobs, we challenge the accepted and as we continue to improve and make a difference together, today, we share our new strategy BeyondZero: To 2025 and Beyond. Our path to aim higher and drive continuous improvements. This strategy provides the principles that will drive ambitious, sustained and system-wide improvements in our HSE, security and resilience, and deliver better outcomes for our people, our partners and the environment.
