Meet Jaime Shapiro
Irvine, California, U.S.
With roadways becoming increasingly congested, the efficiency and effectiveness of rail networks across the United States are becoming more important. It’s this opportunity for positive change that brings excitement and motivation to Jaime Shapiro in her role as a project engineer at Jacobs.
Jaime’s 17-year-long career on rail projects has allowed her to work on networks across the continental U.S. She is currently the track design lead for the DART Silver Line Double Track project, a 26-mile design build rail project which goes from the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) airport to Plano, Texas, immersing herself in the fast-paced nature of design-build and embracing the opportunity to work one on one with the contractors. The completion of the project will provide residents with improved service and connection in the northern portion of the DART system. Jaime also helps to lead the rail team in our Irvine, California office.
Originally interested in math and a career goal toward dentistry, Jaime quickly found a liking for engineering, ultimately earning a degree in civil engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona). She discovered her passion for rail in her first internship and has thrived as a leader in the space ever since.
Jaime Shapiro’s career in rail may have started by happenstance but the impact that rail has on our everyday lives and the opportunities it presents for a more efficient and sustainable future has inspired her passion for rail projects – determining the track of her career.

“I love that rail is used every day in real life and I feel it is helpful for the environment. I especially like commuter rail projects because our roadways are very congested, so public transportation, I think, is the way of the future.”
