CH2M HILL Receives Contract to Support EPA Superfund Program

Under the Region 9 RAC2 contract, CH2M HILL will support the clean up of Superfund sites throughout Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. territories in the Pacific, and tribal lands.
CH2M HILL will support EPA Region 9 on all phases of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA—also known as Superfund) process, from site investigation and characterization through remedial design and remedial action, and post-construction support.
CH2M HILL has been working in EPA Region 9 since the Superfund program was passed in the early 1980s. Superfund is the EPA program mandated to identify, investigate and clean up uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous waste sites. Its purpose is to provide federal authority to clean up releases or threatened releases of hazardous substances that may endanger public health or the environment.
"U.S. EPA Region 9 has been a major CH2M HILL client for the past 27 years and we are extremely pleased to have won the Region 9 RAC 2 contract, which allows us to sustain this working relationship in to the future," says Chris Shea, CH2M HILL Regional Business Group Manager. "We’ve successfully tackled some incredibly challenging projects for EPA Region 9, such as the Iron Mountain Mine site in Redding, Calif., and we are committed to building on our record of past performance. With the new contract, we will continue work on projects that protect public health and the environment in EPA Region 9."
During the firm's 27-year association with EPA Region 9, CH2M HILL's environmental work has been recognized with several awards, both individually and jointly with other firms. The Iron Mountain Mine Slickrock Creek Reservoir Project located near Redding, Calif., received the 2006 American Council of Engineering Companies Grand Award, the second highest national award for engineering excellence. The same project was also recognized with the Engineering Excellence Award in the environmental category from the Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors of California.
The three-year contract has award terms for a total of 10 years.
