Jacobs Awarded Contract for University of Oklahoma Utility Project

PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the University of Oklahoma (OU) to provide design and construction phase services for its Utility Plant No. 4 project.

Officials did not disclose the contract value, yet estimate construction cost at $60 million.

Jacobs is providing engineering and architectural design and construction administration services for a new combined chilled water, steam and electricity production plant, to be located in the heart of the OU Norman campus and designed to meet the new utility demands stemming from campus growth. The scope of work for the new utility plant includes:

  • New 50,000-square-foot plant building
  • 15MW of electricity generation using two gas-fired combustion turbines
  • 10,000 tons of chilled water production capacity, with provision for an additional 7,500 tons of future capacity
  • 180,000 pounds per hour of steam generation capacity using a boiler and two heat recovery steam generators
  • A 1,200-foot underground tunnel housing chilled water and steam distribution piping to connect the new plant to the existing campus infrastructure.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Tom McDuffie stated, "We're very excited to assist OU in the implementation of this very important project for the continued growth of the campus.
