CH2M HILL Names Patrick Karney VP/Global Wastewater Service Team Lead and Julian Sandino Assistant Director of Technology for Firm's Global Water Business Group

DENVER, 17 July, 2006 — CH2M HILL, a global full-service engineering, construction, and operations firm, has named Patrick Karney, P.E., DEE, vice president as the new global wastewater service team leader, and Julian Sandino, Ph.D., P.E., assistant director of technology for the firm’s Global Water Business Group (WBG) as a core member of the global wastewater service team.

In their new positions, Karney and Sandino will partner together on a number of the firm's WBG strategic client initiatives, both leveraging their expertise in wastewater service and technology innovation.

Karney will serve as the firm's global wastewater service team leader. In this capacity, he will place a strong focus on developing and implementing strategies for meeting wastewater client needs, integrating business development with the technology practice, and establishing a significant presence in the marketplace via participation in national boards and societies.

Operating out of CH2M HILL's Jacksonville, Fla. office, Pat brings more than 25 years of experience managing publicly owned wastewater treatment systems. Prior to joining CH2M HILL in 2005, he was director of the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) of Greater Cincinnati, Ohio. As director, Pat managed an annual budget of $130 million that included 3,000 miles of collection system and seven regional water reclamation facilities to serve nearly 800,000 residents in 49 local communities. During his tenure at MSD, his leadership established guidelines for wet weather improvements for the next 18 years.

Pat has held management positions with public utilities including plant superintendent with Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District and wastewater division chief with the City of Jacksonville, Fla. He also served as deputy director of the Water Environment Federation in the early 1990s. Karney has published and presented more than 40 national and international papers to the environmental community stressing the importance of various water and wastewater issues.

As vice president, assistant director of technology and wastewater treatment fellow, Julian Sandino brings more than 20 years of experience leading and assisting multi-disciplinary teams in sanitary infrastructure and environmental projects throughout the world including process evaluation and design for a wide variety of wastewater treatment facilities.

In his new position, Julian will assist in the strategic planning process for the wastewater service team and the firm’s Global WBG. In addition, he will support all service team functions and provide leadership and expertise in WBG project delivery, staffing and technology innovation.

Prior to joining CH2M HILL in 2005, Sandino served as associate vice president and water reclamation practice leader for Black & Veatch, an engineering, consulting and construction company specializing in infrastructure development. He has been involved in more than 100 projects in several countries and has authored more than 40 technical papers and publications.
