PASADENA, Calif., March 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that it, in joint venture with Atkins, received a contract from Interlink M74 Joint Venture to design and provide construction services for the M74 Completion project in Glasgow, Scotland, estimated to be approximately $900 million in construction cost.

Officials did not disclose the contract value.

This 5-mile project will complete a vital part of Scotland's motorway network, and forms part of a major infrastructure investment in Scotland's transportation network. It will provide a through route from England to the west coast of Scotland, bringing with it benefits of journey time reliability, improved accessibility, and increased new business opportunities while providing integral infrastructure for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

It includes constructing 12 significant bridges such as a 12 span 700-meter-long steel composite launched bridge across the West Coast Mainline Railway. The project also includes major brownfield site remediation, ground improvements, large diameter piling and providing intelligent transportation systems (ITS) all in a constrained urban site.

In making the announcement on behalf of the design joint venture, Jacobs Group Vice President Michael Higgins stated, "The two companies are delighted to be involved in one of the most prestigious highway projects ever to be delivered in Scotland which will complete a strategic link in the highway network and contribute significantly to the economic growth of central Scotland."

Jacobs, with over 54,000 employees and about $9 billion in revenues, provides technical, professional, and construction services globally.
