Jacobs Supports First-of-Its-Kind Test for Missile Defense Agency

DALLAS, May 2, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs (NYSE:JEC) supported the first-ever successful salvo test of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system, involving two Ground-Based Interceptors (GBIs) against an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), conducted by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). This was the first test to implement the salvo doctrine of launching two interceptors against one target, proving the effectiveness of the overall system. This was a monumental milestone for the United States' critical homeland defense system designed to defend against intermediate and long-range ballistic missile threats.

Working through the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract, Jacobs provided integrated solutions to support the test in all phases. From ICBM launch, to ground, sea and space-based sensors providing real-time target acquisition and tracking data, to operation of the Command, Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC) system, and finally target discrimination, GBI launch and intercept.

"Jacobs provides leading-edge, solutions-driven innovation for our nation's defense," said Jacobs Aerospace, Technology and Nuclear Senior Vice President Steve Arnette. "We are proud to support this first-of-its-kind test and the MDA national defense mission with research and development; system level test and evaluation; operational testing; and other mission support services."

Jacobs provides 24/7 support to the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center – a key component of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). The Jacobs team supports flight systems and ground systems testing; hardware-in-the-loop tests, execution and control; and classified and unclassified military simulations for the development of the BMDS.
