PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) and small business partner TANTARA Corporation of Worcester, Mass. announced today that they were selected to receive the 2013 DoD Nunn-Perry Award. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional performance in the DoD Mentor-Protégé Program in the areas of quality, technical assistance, return on investment, and protégé development.
Jacobs partnered with TANTARA, a small disadvantaged, woman-owned, 8(a) firm, and provided the company assistance to become a preferred supplier to the Army, capable of providing value-added support of the Army’s mission in areas including small arms firing ranges and unexploded ordnance (UXO).
TANTARA is a growing firm that provides a full suite of environmental remediation and construction services in a highly competitive marketplace supporting multiple clients throughout the eastern United States. The firm was recently awarded its first design-build contract for range improvements. During its relationship with Jacobs, TANTARA significantly increased its revenue, staffing and new awards.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Robert Norfleet stated, "We are very proud of the growth TANTARA has realized during our mentor-protégé relationship. Jacobs is a long-time supporter of the small and disadvantaged business community, and we take a particular interest in mentoring small businesses within the federal contracting arena."
In 1995, the DoD presented the first Nunn-Perry Awards to recognize successful mentor-protégé relationships. The award is named in honor of former Senator Sam Nunn for his vision in sponsoring legislation to create and fund the DoD Mentor-Protégé Program and in honor of former Defense Secretary William Perry for his commitment to implementing the program.
Jacobs is one of the world's largest and most diverse providers of technical professional and construction services.
