Jacobs Helps Victoria’s Regional Rail Link Stations Achieve Green Star Rating

PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today that it played a leading role in helping Victoria’s Regional Rail Link (RRL) project achieve Green Star certification for five new and upgraded railway stations. The stations are the first in Australia to receive Green Star certification.

Jacobs assisted the Regional Rail Link Authority (RRLA) and the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) in developing a unique Green Star rating tool to independently assess and benchmark the sustainability of new railway stations in Victoria. Using the tool, Jacobs then coordinated and tracked the implementation of sustainable design initiatives at Footscray, West Footscray, and Sunshine stations; and managed their Green Star certifications.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Michael Shirley said, “We are delighted to have helped RRLA achieve Green Star certification on this high profile project, setting a new standard for other key infrastructure projects in Australia.”

In addition to its contribution to the development of the Green Star rating tool, Jacobs played a role in overseeing the application of sustainable design practices throughout the Footscray-Deer Park section of the RRL project, and in advising on compliance with the RRLA Sustainability Policy.

Key sustainability features at the stations include solar photovoltaic panels, energy-efficient LED lighting, and sensors that automatically switch off (or reduce) lighting and air-conditioning when not required. Rainwater harvesting systems were also installed, water-efficient fixtures used, and landscaping incorporated low water use indigenous plants.

The RRL project also received a Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Award for 2014.

Jacobs is one of the world’s largest and most diverse providers of technical professional and construction services.
