PASADENA, Calif., Nov. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today its Chemetics® unit in Pickering, Ontario, Canada has been awarded a design and fabrication contract by El Dorado Chemical Company for three proprietary designed sulfuric acid coolers to be installed in the company's acid plant in El Dorado, Ark.
Officials estimate the construction cost to El Dorado to be $700,000,with a Chemetics® contract value estimated at $500,000.
Under the terms of the contract, the scope of work involves the design and fabrication of drying, interpass and final anodically protected sulfuric acid coolers. The coolers are replacing two of the original Chemetics® coolers supplied in 1975 and one from another vendor supplied in 2008, when the plant was upgraded to double absorption. The contract was awarded after close cooperation with the client to custom design the coolers and the associated water piping to meet the present and future process and operational requirements of the plant.
This project is in addition to two other proprietary SARAMET® equipment and piping projects of value estimated at $300,000, signed earlier this year, for the nitric acid portion of the El Dorado facility.
Jacobs Group Vice President Andy Kremer stated, "This project is an excellent example of Jacobs' unique ability to collaborate with our clients to provide high value solutions, and it reinforces us as a leader in design and supply of proprietary equipment for the sulfuric acid production industry."
El Dorado Chemical produces concentrated nitric acid (CNA), sulfuric acid and weak nitric acid at its facility in El Dorado.
