At Jacobs, we’re proud to be a place where LGBTQ+ people can truly bring their whole self to work. Our team in Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) is working tirelessly to champion equality, raise awareness, promote allyship and empower and develop members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Our commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion has been recognized by several external industry-leading benchmarking organizations. We’re proud to collaborate with the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI)to drive continuous improvement, not just in Australia but around the world. In 2022 we were recognized for the fourth consecutive year with a “perfect” score in Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index – and attained a historic ranking of #6 in Stonewall’s U.K. Workplace Equality Index, making us the first company ever from our industry to earn a top 10 place.
Prism is our employee network for LGBTQ+ people and allies. With over 450 members across the ANZ region and over 3,000 globally, Prism participates in community LGBTQ+ inclusion initiatives and engages with and supports guest speakers, charities and local pride organizations. By bringing in guest speakers, we expose employees to unique perspectives and encourage a deeper dive into our value, “we live inclusion.”
Prism has an active presence in our ANZ operation, with numerous events taking place throughout the year, from global observances like International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), Wear it Purple, Transgender Day of Visibility and Bisexual Awareness Week, to local events like Midsumma in Melbourne, Mardi Gras in Sydney and Brisbane Pride. In Australia we’re a proud sponsor of organizations like BuildingPride, working to support and empower LGBTQ+ people in the construction and property industry through mentoring, job placement, construction site initiatives and educational events.
Through our employee giving platform Collectively we’ve supported the community through company-matched donations to Australian charities such as ACON, Transcend Australia, GiveOUT and Rainbow Families, and use our days of visibility to encourage donations to these charities.
At Jacobs, we recognize the importance of allyship to fostering LGBTQ+ inclusion and have several events and campaigns geared toward recruiting allies in our company and in the industries that we serve. We’re proud to work with Pride in Diversity to facilitate presentations and courses on LGBTQ+ Awareness and Empowering Allies – and our regular sponsorship of Brisbane Pride’s Ally of the Year award is one of the highlights of our calendar.
