Around the globe, Jacobs employee talent is the cornerstone of our success. So, it’s vital we create an environment where our employees meet fresh, exciting challenges and experience the satisfaction of a job well done. Through our thriving graduate, apprenticeship and intern programs, our employee networks and our wider Leadership and People Development framework, we are helping our future talent embark on rewarding careers with Jacobs around the world.
In the U.K., for example, we have nearly 1000 graduates, technicians and apprentices currently training with Jacobs. At the first of three regional graduation ceremonies, more than 100 young women and men living and working in and around London, the Midlands and the south east of England were united this week to celebrate their successful completion of their graduate development program or apprenticeship.
“The ceremony paid tribute to the bright minds who have achieved so much over the last two years, and who will now continue that journey designing, developing and delivering solutions and projects that help to improve peoples’ lives,” said Jacobs Buildings and Infrastructure Europe Senior Vice President and General Manager Donald Morrison. “By having the opportunity to help tackle challenges like the need for clean air and water, placemaking, connectivity and security, our young leaders will become tomorrow’s problem solvers.”
One of those graduating was Urban Designer, Lucy May, who has been working primarily in urban design since completing her undergraduate degree in Town Planning in 2016. “The domino effect of improving a public space can be immense,” said May. “You might never meet someone who lives or works in the final product, but you know that all the changes, big or small, have made a positive impact to at least one person, and hopefully another, and another.”
The ceremony was held at the London Transport Museum where Jacobs is supporting the new ‘Shape Your City’ exhibit, which lets visitors play an interactive table-top game to create a healthy and well-connected sustainable city and highlight the type of city and transport conundrums that engineers, designers and other specialists are tackling every day.
Morrison added: “We hope the exhibit, as part of the new Future Engineers’ Gallery, will create a really engaging experience that encourages learning and curiosity amongst young people about engineering and the many related careers.”
Jacobs’ U.K. Graduate Development Program establishes graduates as knowledgeable and competent in key functions and disciplines, and actively supports them on their path to achieving registration with a professional institution. Our Apprenticeships provide practical, on-the-job development, with structured, blended learning through a mixture of formal classroom, workshop, office and site placements.
