Stories that capture our partnerships and innovative impact for a more connected, sustainable world
What’s being called the fifth mode of transportation and the first revolution in transportation in more than 100 years, the high-speed transportation system known as Hyperloop first became socialized in 2013.
Using near-vacuum tubes, Hyperloop vehicles are envisioned to safely carry people or cargo at speeds up to 700-miles-per-hour, while being more energy efficient, environmentally friendly, sustainable and more convenient than air travel.
Think of it. Amsterdam to Paris in 30 minutes. Downtown Chicago to O’Hare Airport in 12, San Francisco to Los Angeles in under 40. Delhi to Mumbai in less than an hour, and Riyadh to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia in 75 minutes. All with the ease of traveling from a local urban train station.
And with our leading role in the world’s connected transportation transformation, we’re part of the action!
To accelerate the development of the Hyperloop concept, the SpaceX organization open-source challenged university student teams from around the world to design and build a Hyperloop pod vehicle culminating in a global competition. At this years’ event on July 22, 2018 in Hawthorne California, at SpaceX’s test facility, the sole competition criteria is safe maximum speed.
Jacobs is among sponsors of the Delft University of Technology Hyperloop team from the Netherlands. The Delft team is a leading contender in the upcoming competition, having advanced from the first round. The Delft team consists of 37 students from multiple disciplines working full time on the design and production of a Hyperloop vehicle named Atlas01 inspired by the motto: Go faster. No Pressure.
