Meet James A. Moore

An architect, planner and urban designer with over 30 years of professional experience, James is helping lead and expand the Jacobs Cities & Places practice worldwide, with an emphasis on regeneration, resilience, sustainability and ‘smart’ cities.

James has a deep understanding of cities as complex “systems of systems” in which all component elements are integral to planning, design, development and operations.

He promotes a comprehensive process, built on broad-based, effective community engagement, with a goal of balancing the physical development of the built and natural environments with sustainable economic growth and continual socio-cultural advancement.

He has particular expertise in organizing and managing complex urban regeneration projects, including those focusing on neighborhood revitalization and the creation of walkable, bike-friendly, transit-oriented mixed-use environments. As a Full Member of the Urban Land Institute for more than 25 years, James has chaired both his local ULI district council and a national ULI product council. He received his Bachelor of Science in architecture and two Masters of Science degrees in building systems and real estate, respectively, from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also received a masters and PhD in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
