Jacobs Received Esteemed J.W. Morris Sustaining Member Award

Jacobs received the 2017 J.W. Morris Sustaining Member Award from the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), given annually to one sustaining member firm for continued, noteworthy contributions to SAME. Beyond this prestigious distinction, Jacobs’ Buildings, Infrastructure and Advanced Facilities Federal Solutions and Technology Leader John Mogge won the President’s medal and BIAF Project Manager Laura Lavelle received the Architecture Committee award, presented to individuals for outstanding leadership and accomplishment within SAME.

“We are honored to receive these prestigious awards from SAME,” said Jacobs Buildings, Infrastructure and Advanced Facilities President Bob Pragada. “Our commitment to SAME is demonstrated by the number of sustaining member affiliations the company has at SAME posts worldwide, along with our contributions to support education programs and collaborative efforts to identify and resolve national security infrastructure-related challenges.”

SAME, and its 105 posts (chapters) in the U.S. and abroad, offers its more than 30,000 members professional and personal development, networking and community involvement opportunities designed to promote and facilitate engineering support for national security.

First presented in 1981, the J.W. Morris Sustaining Member Award is named in honor of Lt. Gen. John W. Morris of the U.S. Army. The award recognizes a sustaining member firm that has at least two or more SAME posts or chapter sustaining memberships in each of the previous five years. A vital tool in communicating with engineers across the country, posts allow former colleagues and new associates opportunities to connect face-to-face, establishing a network of relationships in support of national security.

Active in SAME since 1968, Jacobs has a long and proud history of leadership engagement, service and support to SAME. Jacobs is a sustaining member at 45 posts around the world, and with many key leaders proudly serving at all levels of the society in 2017, from president of the SAME Foundation to vice presidents, treasurers, committee members, STEM camp coordinators and more positions at the regional and post levels.

Members have distinguished themselves in 2017 through dedicated and steadfast service at the national, regional and post levels of the society, while embracing the four goals of the 2020 SAME Strategic Plan by:

  • Leading efforts to foster trust and understanding through communications and collaboration among military, public, private, academic and professional architecture, engineering and consulting organizations.
  • Leveraging SAME’s culture of service to develop sustainable growth of leaders for our profession.
  • Developing tailored opportunities and supporting resource plans to train, educate and promote credentialing of members to help them grow personally.
  • Contributing to government and private sector collaboration to minimize the impacts of and enhance effective response to natural or human-caused threats.

The awards were presented at the 2018 Joint Engineer Training Conference and Expo on May 25 in Kansas City, MO.
