Atlanta airport picks CH2M HILL for facilities maintenance

Team of 76 will provide services in main terminal complex, future international terminal

CH2M HILL has been awarded a multi-year contract to provide facilities maintenance and operations services for “the world’s busiest airport,” Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, which serves more than 88 million passengers annually.

Atlanta Airlines Terminal Corporation, a private, non-profit organization chartered by the eight Atlanta-based airlines to provide maintenance and operations services for the airport, hired CH2M HILL to assist in assuring a safe, superb experience for the approximately 240,000 passengers traveling through Hartsfield-Jackson via 2,700 daily flight arrivals and departures.

“CH2M HILL was selected based on demonstrated expertise, depth of maintenance and operations and airport technical resources, a commanding presence in the greater Atlanta metro area, and a strong sense of trust, integrity and teamwork for the work they perform,” says Kirk Hale, AATC’s manager of maintenance.

The contract scope includes the airport’s 5.6-million-square-foot Central Passenger Terminal Complex, which comprises the landside terminal building, six concourses, mechanical plants, train tunnels and passenger mall; Delta ground support equipment; and all related building systems. CH2M HILL also will provide maintenance and operations services for the new 1.2 million-square-foot Maynard Holbrook Jackson International Terminal when it is commissioned later this year.

Services provided by the 76-person team, which began officially on Dec. 15, include HVAC systems, central plant operation and energy management systems, controls systems, electrical and mechanical systems, plumbing, interior and exterior building maintenance, and reactive maintenance and repairs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Additional services include energy management and delivering an ISO 9001 certification in the first year of service.

“The opportunity to provide a key facility management function at the busiest airport in the world is significant as we grow our facilities services expertise,” says Elisa M. Speranza, president of CH2M HILL’s operations and maintenance business group. “We’re also happy to expand our presence in the Atlanta metro area, one of our most important markets.”
