Jacobs Chairman and CEO Visits Capitol Hill

On November 8, Jacobs Chairman and CEO Steve Demetriou visited Capitol Hill to meet with Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) and discuss the benefits of the CH2M acquisition. Senator Gardner was familiar with CH2M since they are headquartered in his home state, but was also aware of Jacobs’ work at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs supporting the Missile Defense Agency and our B&I projects across the state. Senator Gardner was enthusiastic about merging the capabilities of the two companies.

Steve also met with Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-AL 4), a member of the powerful Committee on Appropriations, thanking him for his support of the NASA exploration programs and the increased funding he provided to keep the program moving forward.

After watching a portion of the floor debate on the Hydropower Policy Modernization Act, Steve discussed that bill and other topics with Dr. Brian Babin (R-TX 36) who serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as well as the House Science Committee, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Space. Steve thanked Dr. Babin for his support of Jacobs employees impacted by Hurricane Harvey and congratulated him on the passage of his amendment requiring the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to examine and adjust the licenses for any hydropower facilities that are impacted by flooding.

Next Steve met with chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, the committee that funds the entire federal government, Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ 11). Congressman Frelinghuysen is quite familiar with Jacobs’ projects in Morristown and Clark, New Jersey, as well as our support of the Picatinny Arsenal. The Congressman accepted an invitation to visit Jacobs in 2018.

Last but not least, Steve met with Congressman Lamar Smith (R-TX 21), chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, who has jurisdiction over $40 billion in programs for NASA, the EPA, Department of Energy, the FAA, National Science Foundation and National Institute of Standards and Technology. Steve discussed Jacobs’ support of the Department of Energy, the Status of the CH2M acquisition and the oil and gas work completed in Texas.
