Building New Heights - WICE Awards

We’re proud to shine the light on our three winners and all our talented finalists at the European Women in Construction & Engineering Awards. In its fourth year, the prestigious WICE Awards celebrate the achievements of some of the most exemplary women in construction and engineering, and also raise awareness of the career opportunities and success that are attainable.

Jacobs Divisional Director Natalie McIldowie received the WICE Lifetime Achievement in Engineering Award. “Through my engineering career, I have been fortunate to be involved in interesting, transformative projects and to work with great people who inspire me to be positive and have the courage to challenge. I am honoured to be nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award and incredibly proud to win it.”

Winning Best Woman Rail Engineer, Jacobs Director of Operations Susana Gozalo said, “My varied experience has enriched the work that I deliver and there is a lot more I want to learn. What's also important is that I now have a lot to share with the younger generation to bring the best talent into the industry.”

“I believe that helping others to succeed in their work and careers is a key measure of success for us all, so to have won Best Male Mentor means a huge amount to me,” said  Ed Cole, Best Male Mentor and Jacobs Director of Operations. “I plan to use this opportunity to promote the benefits of mentoring more widely.”

This year’s Awards involved an unprecedented level of participation attracting some 350 nominations from 10 European countries.  The winners and finalists were selected by a panel of 60 distinguished judges. They are recognized for their achievements and contributions across a range of career disciplines: from architects and digital innovators creating outstanding design; project managers, civil, rail and software engineers helping to improve rail, highways and other programs; through to women and men who have helped women grow as exceptional talent in their fields.

The opportunity to influence the education and career decisions of our future generations is huge and the WICE Awards are an inspirational illustration of why women should choose, stay and thrive in their careers in construction, engineering and related fields.

“Good things do not come to those who wait, chase your dreams and make your own opportunities,” added Jacobs Technical Director and WICE Best Quantity Surveyor Finalist Tammy Harrison-Round.

Jacobs Project Manager and Best Woman Project Manager Finalist Helen Critchley said, “I am so proud to have been nominated and to be representing Jacobs doing a job I love, amongst a group of such exceptional women.”

Jacobs Director Operational Road Safety and Best Woman Health & Safety Finalist Kate Carpenter, "It was a privilege to be shortlisted for my work in keeping road workers and users safe, and to meet so many talented people excelling in their fields.”

“It’s has been truly inspirational meeting so many female construction professionals and collectively celebrating our contribution to the built environment,” added Jacobs Technical Director and WICE Best Women Architect Finalist Katharine Richards.
