Jacobs has highly developed experience spanning a number of other minerals and metals, including uranium, molybdenum, magnesium, oil sands, coal and rare earths.
Jacobs has been involved in numerous uranium projects ranging from prefeasibility studies through to EPCM and commissioning, together with uranium extraction technology. Capability includes washing, grinding, leaching (both acid and alkali), solid liquid separation, drying, calcination and U3O8 final recovery.
Our experience in molybdenum projects includes: grinding, flotation, leaching (both acid and alkali), solid liquid separation, roasting and recovery of both molybdenum trioxide and rhenium by hydrometallurgical means.
Rich oil sands deposits are extracted by large-scale mining, to produce raw crude bitumen. As a major service provider in the industry, Jacobs specializes in in-situ heavy oil recovery; our areas of expertise encompass upgrading and refining, utilities and off-sites, power and cogeneration, and sulphur recovery and gas processing. Services range from singular technology studies, economic feasibility assessments, and front-end engineering through to full EPC/CM execution on thermal recovery facilities ranging from 1,000 barrels per day (BPD) pilot projects to 250,000 BPD multi-phase projects.
Due to the remote location of many of our clients’ facilities, we often make extensive use of modular design and have developed an advanced construction technique to benefit safety, schedule, quality and cost.
Our coal work includes coal and ash handling for power and steam generation and extensive materials handling expertise. Designs have included requirements for crushing, grinding, screening, conveying, weighing, and feeding of solid materials. Jacobs has flexible and extensive coal handling and preparation plant engineering capability.
Jacobs possesses extensive experience in the design, engineering and construction of process facilities for the extraction and purification of rare earth elements, as well as the piloting and demonstration of various technologies used in rare earth processing facilities. Services include beneficiation, leaching, intermediate product recovery, rare earth separation, purification and reagent regeneration.
We provide studies, process modelling, project management, engineering, procurement, and construction services for new processing facilities as well as test work and piloting supervision of demonstration plants.
